Not quite the mom...

So, I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like I never get everything accomplished (or that I want too :), I am not quite good enough, etc.. Case in point:
Two days ago, on Tuesday, Livi was playing with Luke's tape measure. She was "measuring" things around the house. I was ok with it because she was being very careful with it. Well, I turned my back and Spencer made a grab for it and reacting very fast, Livi yanked it from his hand! He started screaming, but I only thought that he was upset she took it away (yes, he can get a little emotional about things like that..and will scream/cry like it is the end of the world!! )
So, when I went to pick him up, I saw that the tape measure had sliced his hand! It was gushing blood! I ran to the bathroom and held it under water to clean it out, then I wrapped it in toilet paper. I held it there and then checked it a minute or two later...but it wouldn't stop bleeding!! So, I put it under water again and held kleenex on it for about 10 minutes. It finally stopped bleeding long enough for me to use an antiseptic wipe, neosporin, and place a band-aide on it before it started bleeding again!
Well, it stopped bleeding and we were really careful with it...until on Wednesday, I was getting nervous that it wouldn't heal because of where it was located (on his right palm, next to his thumb, in the crease). Whenever he moved his fingers, it looked like it would open up again.

Well, on Wednesday night, I took him to Urgent Care and they said that if I had brought him in earlier (like within a 6 hour period of when it happened) they would've been able to do something (glue it together) but now they couldn't and I just needed to watch it, give him antibiotics, clean it, and put neosporin on it. I was somewhat devastated--I was his mom, and I hadn't brought him in sooner, so now he is going to be in pain longer..

So, for the moms out there..know this:
According to the Urgent Care Dr...
If you or your child get a deep cut on the hand, do not wait longer that 6 hours to get it checked.
If you have a head wound, no longer than 10 hours, otherwise, they can't do anything for you.

Next time, i am just going to bring 'em in ... no matter what!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Who would have known they couldn't glue it after 6 hours. You did what you thought was best. Besides you don't want to be paranoid about everything. Now if he had run around the house for an hour bleeding everywhere, then yeah, It might be time for Child Services. Luckily, you are a great mom!

Holy Cow!!!! You didn't tell me this! Did this happen before or after I talked to you on the phone? What a sweet little thing. I'm so sorry. I bet Livi felt horrible. Well, at least I hope she did. But I'm sure she did. Hope he's doing okay. We'll be home soon. Miss you guys.
