Here's the scenario:
We rented a DVD from the library. Spencer was taking it out of the case and broke it. We saw it at WalMart for $9. I went to the library and told them that my son had broken it and would it be ok to just swap it out with the walmart one. They told us that they couldn't because they go through a special company for the DVD's. What they want us to pay? $22! Ridiculous!
I am still contemplating buying the one at Walmart. Is that dishonest?
The only thing that I would need to switch? The little paper label around the DVD's center. They would never know...but again, is it dishonest?

I say to go for it!Seriously, we checked out a movie and accidentally returned one of OUR movies in THEIR case and we have never seen our movie again. Not even after I went and talked to them about it. If a movie plays the same, I say it should be replaced just as the same. There's a line between honesty and just plain picky.
You are trying to make it right...not to say that someone else broke it. They can either take it or leave it.
:)
No swap the stinkin DVD..that is crazy they would make you buy the more expensive one when the other one is just the same. I bet they get money out of it some how...who doesn't want money these days!! Don't feel bad!
Um, I kind of think it's dishonest, BUT I would totally do it.
The library charged me $9 to fix a book Landon ripped the cover off of a year ago - I should have just said I lost it so I could've kept it for about the same price!
This one is tricky!!! I was thinking just to switch it out because it's all the same anyways, but then I realized they have to get it through another company because they pay different royalties to the producers, artists, etc... depending on who is buying it. So if you buy it from Wal-Mart they are getting ONE type of royalty (for family usage) when instead the DVD will be watched by many many people and they should be getting more royalties... even if it's a replacement. Does that make sense?
So all I'm saying is that, I don't know. Tough one!! Probably for a difference of only $13 it's worth it to just do it the library way and not worry about whether it's honest or not! I absolutely HATE when we get smacked with library charges but Ken always says, "Tris, just realize it's a cost of doing business with the library. Just pay it and move on with life."
Hmmm.... interesting post! Really made me think!!
