While waiting in the dr. office, I overheard a conversation going on right next to me. It may not seem like a big deal to some of you but I was a bit upset about it. Here's how it went:
Three non-well-to-do ladies (aka white trash--please don't think that I judge..it's the best way to describe them without going into too much detail!) were talking about the song, "I kissed a girl and I liked it." I personally HATE this song because it is sung by a girl about a girl and although I am not anti-gay/lesbian, I surely don't aprove nor want my children listening to this song. I think it is inappropriate.
ANYWAY, I guess one of the ladies works at a daycare and she was talking about how some of her preschoolers were singing it and how cute it was and how they loved hearing them sing it. One of them said that a parent had mentioned that they shouldn't be singing it (at preschool) and another one said,
"Why not? If the parent's let them listen to it, then it's not bad." While the third one said,
"What's the big deal, it's just a song?"
WHOA! Ok, there are many things wrong with this...and not to jump on my well-used soapbox, but I don't want my kid hearing these sort of songs played in preschool AND it's not just a song, but it is the principle of it. If I want to teach my child about lesbian things, then I'll do it in the comfort of my home, surrounded by Luke and a whole lot of the Spirit. I almost said something and was going to...oooohhh, I was close, but then they got called back.
What is the world coming to? I can't wait to move back to Idaho and get a bit of the "bubble" back. No, I realize that no matter what, my kids will be bombarded by the evils of the world, but at least in Idaho I have a say in what is taught (for the most part) and they are a more conservative state. If all else fails, I guess I am going to have to do what I have always NOT wanted to do..homeschool. (That's another discussion all together! :)

STOP--Some pictures may be too graphic
About 4+ years ago when Livi was 9 months old and learning to walk...she was teetering and fell into our keyboard stand. She hit her forehead and it started gushing blood. I felt horrible as a mom and after talking to a nurse, we were told NOT to get stitches (I regret that now) and to just put a butterfly bandage on it to heal. Fast forward and she has a scar smack dag in the middle of her forehead.
Well...this past Friday was a bit of a horrific scene when Spencer decided to experience that same thing (although his was about 15x's worse)
A great friend took the kids in the morning and was going to keep them for a few hours so they could all play. She called a little later and said, why don't we keep them a little longer and Spencer can take a nap here. I was all for this relaxing day, so I agreed.
When she called me back a few hours later I could tell that something was wrong. Here is probably how the convo went:
A: Katie, Spencer fell and hit his head and it looks pretty bad.
Me: Oh, really? (Obviously, I wasn't too worried, he's a little boy)
A: Yes, it is pretty bad. I put him down for his nap in E's room and then a little bit later I heard him whining, not crying, not screaming, just doing a bit of a whine. So, I went in to check on him and there was blood everywhere.
Me: Really?!? Wow, that sounds bad. How did it happen?
A: I have NO idea! We went to investigate and there wasn't anything sticking out, unless he was jumping really high on the bed and hit the nail that is sticking out of the wall. (Don't think that was it)
Anyway, the convo went on a few minutes while I tried to get out the door and get over there. We still don't know what he was playing with or how he got it. What a stinker...that's a boy for you!
Long story short...it was bad. I got there and his clothes were stained with blood, but being the cute, resilient little tike that he is, he was outside playing, waiting for me to come get him. He said, "mom, my head" and then didn't worry about it again.
We got to the ER around 4:30 and didn't leave until almost 8p.m. During this time Luke and livi showed up with dinner (Yummy JImmyJohns!!) and we chilled in the room.
I wish that they would've been able to use glue to close it, but they couldn't..part of the skin was sticking up and not in the right position...BLAH!
Anyway, they numbed it and then had the dr. come in to close it and let me tell you how cute this Spencer kid is...Daddy was holding Spencer with the help of a nurse while the dr. stitched. Daddy had to leave the room pretty quickly and Spencer started to cry b/c he was under bright lights and I was on the other side of the dr. holding livi. He started fidgeting which is NOT good when they are trying to stitch your head closed and so I came over to hold him. To try and calm him down, I asked him if he wanted to sing the "Wheels on the Mack" (Think: Cars, but not Lightening McQueen--Mack, the truck that carries lightening)
He said no! (We were WAY SURPRISED!) He wanted to sing, "I Love to See the Temple!" It calmed him down immediately and even the dr. tried to sing it (key word: tried) It was a sweet moment for me. So, here are the pictures. Oh, my sweet little boy!

Honestly, for as much pain as there should've been..Spencer was PERFECT. He didn't complain, get mad or anything (except for the brief switching of the parents) He was a doll and I couldn't be more happy that he is in our family. We love you Spencer!!
