Reading...?

So, we were very encourage over Thanksgiving when my niece, Annalee (just turned 5) was reading at an 8th grade level. She had taught herself how to read several months ago and was just going to town.

Luke & I felt that maybe Livi could and should be starting down the same road and so we did..and Livi has done a great job!! We have been reading vol. 1 of Dick & Jane books We Look. We started yesterday and went through the first story. After the first time, she read the next 4 stories! We went over the words and the ones that she didn't remember by rote, we would sound out.

Well, today before she went to a birthday party, I had her go through the books again to see if it was a fluke (I know, nice mommy!) and it wasn't!! She was still reading it!!

I am not saying that she is going to be reading by herself tomorrow, but at least it is progress. Sometimes she doesn't want to focus, heck, t.v. hello?!? But we are trying to focus her little by little. It's fun to use my bachelor's degree somewhere!! We'll update as it continues!

awesome, just remember Annalee is a prodigy child that no one should ever compare their children to because it just makes them feel bad! Hee hee hee. I'm just kidding, we always say that about my friend's child because she just turned two and she's potty trained talks in complete, grammatically correct sentences, tells stories, "reads" stories from memory, and I swear by next year that girl will be reading. Anyway, this comment is a novel, but I had to add it!
Congrats for having another one of those prodigy children yourself! Now I just need mine to talk so other people have a clue what he's saying!

Wow, that is great. I don't think RJ is even close to reading. He does memorize lines in books and short books he can recite back to us (he thinks he is reading then). I guess that is a start. Congrats to you and Livi.

Hey, Alex is reading at a 3rd grade reading level (when she decides to) but i used this book called "Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons." I found it on amazon and it is 100% scripted for you. It worked like a dream.
