Niagara Falls and Palmyra, NY

Whoa! I can't believe that we were gone 36 hours...it seemed like we were gone for a week!

Luke took Friday off, so we started out by getting our oil change...at 9:30. Yes, we had planned to get it earlier, yes, we had planned on LEAVING earlier..but whatever!
The drive was beautiful.....

and these little things became our best friends...the toll booths:

We got to Niagara Falls around 2p.m. and HAD A BLAST! We took the Maid of the Mist tour and went out to see both the American and Canadian Falls.

It was so awesome! As you can see from the pictures, it was WINDY-WINDY-WINDY!!

I thought Chicago and Idaho were windy, but we had a hard time standing upright. Case in point:

Then we traveled to Rochester to our hotel. Relaxed for about 15 minutes and then ventured on to Palmyra. It was 7p.m. and the anti-mormon protesters were already out! We saw the Miners and the Stake President's Family, The Titera's....AND we saw...THE MATTHEWS! This was a family from my home stake and I LOVED THEM! Their 2 daughter, Mindy and Marcie were awesome, their dad was/is an FBI agent (they are currently stationed in Thailand) ...and was a HUGE reason I went into Criminal Justice my first year at college, but I was especially excited to see Sister Matthews...she is AWESOME! I wish I could explain her warmth and how energetic she is...but I can't. She is one of those types of people that people just fall in love with when first meeting her. Luke got a kick out of her, Livi couldn't stop talking/gazing at her and that's really the type of person she is! I really can't say how awesome they are...so I'll just move on to the pageant.
The pageant was amazing! It brought such a spirit and was so wonderful. The only downside was that is was blasting warm! Humid, sticky and the ocassional breeze...we met some of the most humble and wonderful people sitting next to us. They had traveled from Mexico with a tour group and were just so kind. The girls LOVED livi and couldn't get over her!

Our favorite part was when Christ was resurrected and visited the children. What a wonderful experience.
We were a little disappointed after the pageant when we were trying to get out of our parking lot...the cars wouldn't let us in..They saw us (and other people) get in their cars, but moved up so they couldn't let us in! How sad...we had just watched this wonderful pageant all about Christ and there these people not letting anyone in...RIDICULOUS! So, after 8 cars wouldn't let us in, we just pulled out and budged in...it only took us 1/2 hour to get out of our spot!
The next morning we went BACK to Palmyra to go to the Sacred Grove, the temple, Hill Cumorah, etc. We knew that with it being HOTTTTT, the kids wouldn't cooperate, so we didn't take a tour, we just went and did our own thing and it was WONDERFUL! I haven't been to Palmyra in 15 years and they now allow you to DRIVE up the Hill Cumorah...PERFECT! So, instead of walking up the hill, we drove it and it was great!

Then we came home...it was a FABULOUS trip and some wonderful family memories were made!

Ok, this is exactly the post I need to see - -as we are planning a trip to Niagara and Palmyra in two weeks. What kind of documentation did you need/have? We don't have passports (and I'm not willing to spend $100 each for our little half-day adventure). We're hoping to get in and out (and most importantly...back into the US) with driver's licenses and birth certificates. Will that work?

Wow! You guys are quite the little travelers! I'm so impressed and also very jealous at the same time! I've never been to any of those church sights before and would love to experience them.
And niagra falls is beautiful as well. So fun! What a great trip.

That looks like so much fun. I would love to do a Palmyra trip, but we've done enough traveling for awhile. Our next vacation will be Illinios to visit family.
