Why is it when we are asked to say something nice about someone else, it is easy, but when asked to say something nice about ourselves it is soooo difficult?
Being a part of the Ponytail Challenge has REALLY stretched me as a person. It has been hard to try these different challenges and do things out of the ordinary, but it's been a good process. I would encourage anyone and everyone to go to the website and check it out. It'll make you feel like a different person. If you are reading this, why don't you take up the challenge too?! Better yet, why don't you take up THIS challenge:
"If only for a week, you must make extra effort to think positive about yourself! The requirements:In three places, (IE: a note in your pocket, your blog & comments here), you must list 5 things good about yourself. Now, be serious! 5 real things- sincerely wonderful things about yourself.
If you notice yourself comparing; stop. Take a deep breath and review your 5 things. Also, find one sincere reason to like the person you are comparing yourself to.
Read your 5 things out loud sometime during the day, every day until the end of the week.Being superior to your former self? I think that it is so important to be happy with who we are, content with what we have- but also trying to improve- not just wanting to. There is nothing wrong with trying to better ourselves- the key is to do it for ourselves- not in order to compete with others. Find the one thing about yourself that you really want to change, and take that first itsy bitsy baby step in the right direction. And, try to be satisfied w/that first step."
Wow! What a challenge. When I was younger, my dad introduced me to self-affirmations. What a wonderful and positive thing, especially to a teenager. It was hard to keep up with it, but I still remember how I felt when I wrote positive things about myself and then read them over and over again. Now, skip forward almost 15 years and I'll be honest, it was really difficult coming up with one thing, let alone FIVE! I think part of the problem was the fact that after having children, I can't even remember what I had for breakfast, let alone 5 positive things about myself! After thinking long and hard...here it goes:
1. I can be funny (and usually it's NOT the sarcastic type funny)
2. I'm good at making friends, but even more importantly I make an effort to stay friends and to stay in contact.
3. I'm cute. I have great, healthy & easy hair (now that I have cut a foot off!) and beautiful blue/green eyes.
4. I am a perfectionist. If given a challenge/calling I will do it to the best of my ability and go BEYOND what was asked. (now I have to do that in my own life...lose weight)
5. I am creative. I like doing crafty things, selling glass vinyl blocks, etc. making my home warm and inviting and learning new things.
6. I'm a great cook. That is...I have some really GREAT dishes that I love to prepare with or without following the directions..ie going back to #5 I'm creative in making food too!
Thanks for the challenge Camille...I'll read these over and over again and see about adding more to the list!!
Now for the rest of you...have fun!

Katie, you really are wonderful!!! here a couple more things to add to your list: 1. You're caring--you really care about how others feel and how they're doing in life. 2. You're a wonderful sister--you are supportive of Tori and me and you encourage us always. 3. You're a fantastic mom--you're kids are so sweet and kind to others which is a reflection of their parents! YOU ROCK! I love you!
It's true--you are AWESOME!! Glad you did the challenge! Camille is a great girl and I commend her SO MUCH for all the inspiration she has given! :)
I can think of lots more things Katie! All the things you said are definitely true too!
Katie, you really are an amazing person... and I needed that post! I've had a rough couple of days (especially tonight) and have been feeling pretty down on myself. This is exactly what I need to get myself to look at the good side of things... I'll post my 5 soon...
So your number 7 could be helping people and not even knowing it ;-)
I think I will take the challenge. I hadn't heard anything about it before you posted it. I'll try it!
What if my hair doesn't fit in a ponytail? It's too short! ;)
You are awesome and you are right, it is always harder to find good things to say about myself.
You are funny K! I'm doing this.
